Use these helpful checklists to ensure your motorhome is set up and operated safely before and during your trip.

Close gas bottle valve.
Disconnect mains electric and stow cable. Disconnect bollard end first for your safety.
Set fridge to Automatic or the battery symbol.
Shut windows fully, with all handles in the closed position (otherwise they’ll fly away when driving).
Open blinds (otherwise they’ll blow in as the windows are vented).
Tidy loose items away and lock storage cupboards.
Retract/stow entry step, if applicable.
If the cab seats swivel, ensure they’re properly locked in the forward-facing position.
Final walk around the vehicle - check for any unlocked hatches, plugged-cables, or potential physical route hazards.

Fill-up fresh water tank, and empty your grey waste before arriving at your pitch.
Remove the engine key so you don’t run down the vehicle battery.
Open the gas bottle valve.
Connect the electric hook-up cable if you are on a site with hook-up facilities. (Connect vehicle end first, for your safety).
Check the fridge has automatically changed power supply, to gas or electric, if you have an electric hook-up.
When turning on the heating, check if the energy source is gas, or electric if you have a hook-up.
Turn on the hot water 20 minutes before you need it, and turn it off after use.

Take note of your vehicle dimensions and overhangs.
Check your mirrors more often, particularly when reversing or manoeuvring.
Have a passenger get out to assist you when parking or reversing whenever possible.
Take care in high winds, and drive to the weather conditions.
Take frequent breaks to avoid driving while tired, if your motorhome is large you may need to plan these stops before you set off.
Be considerate to other road-users - if you are slow moving allow other traffic to pass when safe to do so.
